Elsie & Neru

This is from over 6 years ago and the video clip was shot on a point & shoot camera. So apologies for the extreme graininess.

Elsie and Neru were siblings from different litters. They lost their mother when Elsie was about 2 years old, scarcely more than a cub herself and Neru was under a year old and completely unable to fend for himself. It would have been perfectly normal for Elsie to abandon her brother and leave him to his fate. But that wasn’t what Elsie did. Instead she took him under her wing. Unfortunately very few wildlife stories have happy endings and this one doesn’t. Young lions without the protection of their pride have the odds stacked against them and this was one of the last sightings of Neru.

Still, here you can see the bond the two siblings share as they face up to a harsh world.
