Scraps from the Lions’ Table

A few days ago, we came across Naramat and Nempiris eating a wildebeest they had hunted. They were already surrounded by scavengers- Spotted hyenas, Silver-backed jackals, White- backed vutures and Ruppell’s vultures. The scavengers though didn’t try to dispossess the lionesses of their kill albeit they were getting a bit impatient. Perhaps they sensed the cats weren’t terribly hungry. First Nempiris and then Naramat stopped eating. Naramat started walking away to join her sister but then in a change of mind, made a feint towards the scavengers all of a sudden, scattering the hyenas and jackals and sending the vultures flying. Her heart wasn’t in it though, and having established dominance one last time, she walked away.

This is when the action really started. Keep the volume on to hear the hyenas howling and the jackals yelping as they and the vultures swarm all over the carcass.
