Kenya straddles the equator and most of the parks are at an altitude. So, the weather varies between cool to hot with a maximum of about 35°C. However, except for Samburu, none of the other parks in Kenya reach higher temperatures with the nights always being cool. The two rainy seasons are mid- April to end-May and mid-November to mid-December. The peak safari tourism season is between June and September to coincide both with the summer holidays in many parts of the world and the annual wildebeest migration which is perhaps the most iconic wildlife spectacle globally. The rates and tourist crowds are at their highest in this time. The wildlife though is always there, and the experience is usually excellent, all the year round though the rainy seasons might affect game drives. The wildebeest calving season is between January and March and this is one of the best periods because of the increased predator activity. It is expected to be dry, and the tourist crowds and rates are at their lowest for the year.

Feb: Generally dry. Wildebeest calving season, hence increased predator activity expected.

June: Just after the main rainy season, so the eco-system is expected to be cool and green.

Aug: iconic river-crossings associated with the annual wildebeest migration. However the peak rates prevail, and the most tourist crowds are expected.

Oct: Generally dry and cool.
